Mel Gibson steps out with new girlfriend
Apr 29th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Mel Gibson Oksana Meet Oksana Grigorieva, the so-called “mystery woman” in Mel Gibson’s life.

Just weeks after his wife Robyn filed for divorce, Mel went public with his new love last night. Mel, 53, and Oksana, a 39-year-old Russian singer, put in an appearance at the LA premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The pair held hands as they walked the red carpet together.

When Robyn filed for divorce this month after a lengthy separation rumors of alleged marital infidelity started running wild. Oksana, who has a 12-year-old son with James Bond actor Timothy Dalton, was soon identified as the new woman in the Lethal Weapon star’s life.

Robyn and Mel were married for 28 years and have 7 children together.

What do you think of Mel going public with his new relationship so soon after news of his divorce?

Cribs recalled in record numbers in 2008
Apr 29th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

The year 2007 was dubbed the year of the recall, but 2008 could be called the year of the crib recall, according to a new report released by the nonprofit Kids in Danger.

The report, called Toxic Toys and Faulty Cribs, said that children’s product recalls by the Consumer Product Safety Commission remained high in 2008, with 190 recalls accounting for more than 18 million items, including 12 recalls of cribs that were responsible for five deaths.

The findings agree with Still Not Safe, a special report issued by Consumers Union last December that provided an analysis of all CPSC recalls from Oct. 1, 2007 to Sept. 30, 2008.

“These products together caused at least 210 injuries and seven deaths,” said Nancy Cowles, executive director of Kids In Danger. “And those incidents include only those already reported at the time of the recall. More needs to be done to protect children from these hazards." (See the report's highlights.)

Rebecca Romijn masters the “double football hold”
Apr 29th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

rebecca-romijn-0820.jpgNew mom Rebecca Romijn returned to work when her twins Dolly and Charlie were just a couple of months old, but she’s managed to continue to breastfeed despite her hectic schedule.

Rebecca’s husband Jerry O’Connell and their 4-month-old daughters have traveled with her to Toronto, where she is currently filming The Love Child of Andy Warhol and Yoko Ono. Jerry says he’s in awe of Rebecca’s ability to juggle work and motherhood.

“Rebecca is breastfeeding the whole time, that’s the most remarkable thing. She’s working right now and nursing. We’re shuttling milk back and forth from the set and bringing the kids to her. A [lactation consultant] at the hospital taught her the double football hold — that’s what we call it. And it’s great.”

The family of four have been spotted enjoying walks and lunch dates in the Canadian city since their arrival.

“Jerry has been seemingly everywhere with his double-decker stroller,” writes a Canadian reporter. “A sizable bunch of paps are on guard outside their hotel at all times. You’d think Brad and Ang had hit town.”

Did you continue to breastfeed after you returned to work?

Matthew McConaughey reveals his baby’s favorite toy
Apr 28th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Matthew McConaughey and Camila AlvesIn a recent interview to promote his latest film, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Matthew McConaughey shared a little tidbit of fatherhood that I thought was interesting.

When asked if there are going to be any more little McConaugheys in his future the actor answered, “Sure, maybe. This is going great right now. We’re having a ball. Right now Levi’s favorite toy is a carrot. No matter how many of those colorful toys you buy at Toys “R” Us or Babies “R” Us, his favorite toy is a carrot. He takes it everywhere. You’ve got to get a cold one. When it gets hot, he doesn’t like it as much and you have to get a cold one out of the fridge. Because it’s cold it feels good on his teeth, but he just likes the carrot.”

I never thought of giving a raw carrot to my baby as a toy! Funny how every parent have their own methods of entertaining kids.

Jennifer Garner returns to the red carpet
Apr 28th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Jennifer Garner April 2009Jennifer Garner was back on the red carpet last night for the first time since the birth of her second daughter Seraphina in January.

For the past few months Jen has been spotted running errands and shuttling big sister Violet, 3, back and forth to preschool, but the busy mom traded in her jeans and Ts for a decidedly more glamorous look at the premiere of her new film, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

Dressed in a black floor-length gown with her hair loose, Jennifer definitely didn’t look the part of the exhausted mom, though she recently revealed that with two young kids in the house she’s “certainly not sleeping”.

Jen’s co-star Matthew McConaughey says he enjoyed working with her on the film: “She doesn’t bring any riff-raff, frizzle-frazzle, extra-BS drama from the outside.” He has a way with words, doesn’t he?

What do you think of Jennifer’s post-baby premiere style?

Katie Price completes the London marathon
Apr 28th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Peter Andre and Katie PriceI may not always agree with Katie Price’s parenting style, but I know for sure that the model/reality star got more accomplished this past weekend than I did!

Katie finished the London Marathon in a slow but determined time of 7 hours and 11 minutes. The 30-year-old suffered knee problems throughout the race, and needed medical help after mile 18. Peter Andre, Katie’s husband stayed by her side until the end of the race.

Katie said, “‘There was no way in hell I wasn’t finishing. I was in agony but [my son] Harvey’s face on my T-shirt got me through. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved.” Harvey is 6-years-old and suffers from septo-optic dysplasia, autism, and is blind.

Katie ran in honor of the children’s charity Vision, while Peter ran for the NSPCC. Congratulations to both for making such a long journey, and doing good along the way!

4 things to do before buying a backpack carrier
Apr 27th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Backpack carrier safety recall 1. Take your baby for test rides. When your baby old enough to be carried in a backpack carrier (she can sit up independently, typically around 6 months old) take her shopping for a backpack carrier and if she is game, do test runs in the store. Try a backpack with a coat on you and your bundled-up child in the pack if you expect to wear it during colder months. (See more backpack carrier safety tips.)

2. Get the hang of it. With the help of a knowledgeable salesperson, practice putting the carrier on and taking it off. Have your spouse do the same to make sure it fits you both comfortably. If you and your spouse will be switching the pack back and forth, try adjusting the straps to fit your torso to see if it’s easy to do. Walk with the backpack to be sure the frame doesn’t hit the back of your head, that it’s not too long for your height, that the straps fit properly so they won’t slip off your shoulders, and that the frame doesn’t start to dig into your lower back after a few minutes. “You should be able to walk comfortably with your arms at your sides,” says Anne Coffman, a physical therapist from New Berlin, WI. Carrier directions should be clear and easy to follow.

3. Look for a snug-fitting safety harness. The safest backpack carriers have a five-point harness for the child that connects the shoulder straps with the crotch, torso, and hip restraints for a snug fit. Don’t purchase a carrier that relies on a lap belt that’s separate from the shoulder and crotch straps, leaving openings at the side that could potentially be big enough for a child to slip through. Such slips can sometimes occur when children pull their legs up and subsequently put both feet and legs into one opening; they’ve been the reason for the recall of several models. We consider that style of harness inadequate for a small child.

4. Do a background check, especially with second-hand equipment. Many parents pick up a backpack carrier at a tag sale. Whether you decide to buy new or used, check for recalled models first at www.cpsc.gov. Inspect preowned carriers for excessive wear, which can dangerously weaken straps and seams. Make sure the instructions/owner’s manual come with the used backpack carrier. Don’t use a carrier for which you have no instructions, no matter how simple it might seem. Accidents can happen too easily. (See more child safety tips.)

Jennifer Garner says 2 kids is a lot more work
Apr 27th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Jennifer GarnerJennifer Garner admits that life with a toddler and a newborn is… well, crazy.

“It’s the same thing but crazier,” the Alias star says of being a mom for the second time. “No, everything is going really well, thank you very much. Everybody is happy and healthy. It feels like it’s only one more but it feels like three more.”

Jennifer and her husband Ben Affleck’s second daughter Seraphina Rose was born in January, joining big sister Violet, 3. Jen recently admitted that she’s surviving on very little sleep these days, saying, “Violet was a good sleeper, typically. But now that there is a new baby, she wakes up when the baby wakes up. She wants me, too, so there are times when they are both up all the time.”

Despite her sleep-deprivation, the busy mom is finding time to promote her new film, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Asked if she and Ben, who starred together in 2001’s Pearl Harbor and then again in Daredevil, plan to work together on a film again, Jennifer says that their priority for now is their girls.

“A big part of it is that somebody’s got to raise the kids, so if we’re both at work, that’s a bummer for them. But there’s no rush. We’re not looking for anything to do together just now.”
