Candy Spelling: Tori contributed to her dad’s death
May 31st, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

tori-spelling-may-21.jpgThe rocky relationship between Tori Spelling and her mom hit a new low last week when Candy Spelling claimed during a radio interview that Tori is partly to blame for her dad’s death.

Though Tori and her father Aaron Spelling had a falling out, she says that they were able to reconcile before his death at the age of 83 in 2006, telling People at the time that she was “most grateful we had the chance to tell each other we loved one another before he passed away.”

Candy, 63, paints a different picture, however.

“I’ve always been trying to work on the relationship [with Tori],” Candy said. “I don’t know what the anger is. My daughter one day decided that she wasn’t speaking to my husband, myself and my son and that’s how it’s continued for the last, oh gosh, four or five years. It was sad because that’s what killed my husband actually. He just didn’t want to live after that. You know, he had done everything … he could possibly do for his daughter and she wanted no part of him once he couldn’t do anything for her.”

Candy later took to The Huffington Post to clarify her comments, though the clarification seems to continue along the much the same lines:

“I didn’t intend to create headlines. I was asked a question about my daughter not speaking with my family, and I answered truthfully. My husband was very ill, and he had stopped eating and taking liquids. He called Tori on a daily basis, and never stopped asking if Tori had returned his call. We had to say no every day.”

There has been no response from Tori as of yet, but it seems safe to say that her relationship with her mom is unlikely to improve after this latest claim.

That’s what you said!
May 31st, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

twys.pngThe weeks are flying by with record speed and tons of celebrity news! This week volleyball star Keri Walsh became a mother, rapper T-Pain welcomed son Kadynz, and Gerard Way named his daughter Bandit!

An astounding 82% of you thought the name Bandit was awful, including Kimber who commented, “The only credit I give these two is at least they didn’t joint the annoying trend of “creatively” spelling the name like Bandyt or Banndit or something. Makes it hard for the kid who has to spell out their “creatively” spelled name for life.”

Our readers were split fairly evenly over naked pictures of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston’s son Tripp in GQ magazine. Kate731 wrote in saying, “I don’t like public nude baby photos, either. I voted that it’s not a big deal, because there is no mistaking the situation – it’s a diaper change. However, I feel like a baby should be granted the same modesty an adult would require for a magazine photo. Does anyone think this baby boy is going to grow up to be excited that his penis was published in a men’s magazine? Not to mention, did Bristol consent to this photo, too?”

Very few of you had any love for the idea of Kate Gosselin writing a cookbook, but it was KIKI who had me laughing by commenting, “DR PHIL WHERE ARE YOU??” All of the Gosselin drama of late does seem like the kind of thing he’d love to horn in intervene on, doesn’t it?

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

Jon Cryer’s ex arrested for felony child abuse
May 30th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Jon Cryer and wife Lisa Joyner

The ex-wife of actor Jon Cryer was arrested Friday on charges of felony child abuse. Jon and Sarah Trigger, who divorced in 2004, have an 8-year-old son named Charlie together.

As the news broke of Sarah’s arrest it was unclear if Charlie was the victim, but by Saturday it seemed that it was Sarah’s 2-year-old son with her new husband who was injured. Check out Sarah’s mugshot. Creepy!

Source tell TMZ the child had rope or cord marks around it’s neck when police arrived. The child is said to be safe now and is involved with the Departement of Children and Family Services.

Jon is now married to Lisa Joyner, pictured here in 2008. No word on what Jon and Sarah’s custody arrangement was.

Scary! Glad to hear everything is ok for ‘Duckie’ and his son!

Rapper T-Pain welcomes son Kaydnz
May 30th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

T-PainWelcome to the world, Kaydnz Kodah Najim! Rapper T-Pain and wife Amber welcomed their third child recently, and (I think) gave him a musical name just like their other children have.

Follow me here: Lyriq (Lyric is the pronunciation I assume) is 4-years-old, Muziq (Music) is 1.5-years-old, and now they have baby Kaydnz (Cadence?). Do you think I’m even on the right track? Ha!

No further details were given about the birth, but you can see a picture of the thumb-sucking little guy here. So cute. Congrats!

Cameron Diaz has “no idea” if she’ll have kids
May 30th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Cameron DiazActress Cameron Diaz says she’s often asked if she plans on having kids – problem is, she doesn’t know yet!

The 36-year-old In Her Shoes star tells Parade magazine:

“I think that it’s normal for people to ask that… especially of someone my age, because it seems like the obvious thing: ‘Why haven’t you done it?’ It doesn’t bother me. It’s not the cross I bear. I’m not somebody who is going to declare either way if I’m absolutely going to or I’m absolutely not going to have children. I have no idea. I’m still young. I have an unbelievable life. In some ways I have the life that I have because I don’t have children.”

Cameron may not be a mom, but she says she has plenty of practice with kids.

“I know what it’s like. I’ve changed the diapers. I’ve seen three births, so I totally get the whole picture. I don’t think it’s a compromise not to (have kids), I think it’s just a different choice,” she says, adding, “People might say, ‘That’s bull. She actually really wants to have a baby.’ My answer is: ‘No! Everything I’m bringing into my life right now isn’t geared toward that. It might be one day.’”

She is set to play a mom on the big screen as well in the film adaptation of Jodi Picoult’s best-selling novel, My Sister’s Keeper.

Folic acid may reduce risk of heart defects in babies
May 29th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Organic toys From the moment that "+" sign appears on a pregnancy test, expectant mothers (and fathers) have plenty of planning, nesting, and stressing to do before their baby's arrival. Although tasks like picking a name can wait, making sure you get enough folic acid cannot. In fact, doctors advise women to make sure they get enough of this nutrient before they even become pregnant, as this can reduce the risk of spina bifida and related birth defects.

Now, a new study suggests another reason to be vigilant about getting enough of this vitamin: a lower risk of serious heart defects.

Using government databases, researchers tracked serious heart defects among babies born in Quebec, Canada, in the 9 years before folic acid was added to grain products, and in the 7 years after. They found little variation in the annual rates of serious heart problems before folic acid was added, with around 1.64 babies in every 1,000 having these defects. In the years following, however, serious heart defects decreased, affecting around 1.47 babies in every 1,000.

Learn more about the study, and how much folic acid you should take, in the rest of this Health blog post.

Nicole Richie: No marriage for now
May 29th, 2009 by Clint & Mindy

Nicole RichieNicole Richie and Joel Madden are expecting their second baby this fall, but the expectant mom says that despite Joel’s “very Christian” upbringing, they’re in no hurry to tie the knot.

“Joel’s family is actually very Christian… Joel grew up very Christian and even his idea when he was little was, I’m going to get married and then I’m going to have kids and, you know, very programmed of that’s the order that everything happens in,” the former Simple Life star told Larry King last night.

Nicole, 27, went on to say that she too had dreams of a marriage as a girl, but that for now the pair is content to remain unmarried and just “focus on our family.”

“When I was a little girl I dreamed about getting married and that is definitely still a dream of mine one day. But right now, we’re really, really focused on our family, we’re focused on our foundation and as far as feeling that need of commitment, we both really have that in each other.”

Nicole’s dad Lionel Richie and her adorable 16-month-old daughter Harlow – who she describes as a “Daddy’s girl” – also joined her on the show.
