Child safety: Be aware of these household poisons

The National Capital Poison Center has listed some household items that are dangerous for children. If you use any of these products, buy them in small quantities and keep them away from your children. Discard what you no longer need.

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Antifreeze
  • Artificial nail-glue remover
  • Automatic dishwasher detergents
  • Dietary supplements (especially with iron) and herbals/botanicals
  • Drain openers
  • Furniture polish
  • Gasoline
  • Kerosene
  • Lamp oil
  • Medicines (prescription and over-the-counter)
  • Miniature batteries
  • Mouthwash
  • Oven cleaner
  • Paint thinner
  • Pesticides
  • Toilet-bowl cleaners
  • Windshield washer solution
