Event Description: Come experience an afternoon of powerfully emotional music presented by Dr. Deborah Joy Backus, pianist. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted with proceeds benefitting the Good News Rescue Mission: Founded in 1964 by a group of concerned Christians, the Good News Rescue Mission offers a hand up and the opportunity for New Life to thousands of men, women and children in our community. They provide emergency groceries, medical, dental, and chiropractic services, academic services, and a distribution center for clothes and household items. Good News Rescue Mission’s long term recovery programs (12 – 24 months) focus on the restoration of men and women from addictions and destructive behaviors.

Dr. Deborah Joy Backus is an award winning pianist. She is a first-prize winner of concerto competitions both in Boston and Michigan; she was also a finalist for the concerto competitions at the Aspen Music Festival and the Shreveport Piano Competition. In addition to winning first prize at the Contemporary Music Competition in Boston, Deborah is recipient of the Excellence in Piano Performance award (created for Dr. Backus) at the University of Michigan. Formal studies include: University of Michigan, BM, New England Conservatory of Music, MM, Arizona State University, DMA. She has studied and performed in Chicago IL, Aspen CO, Ann Arbor MI, Boston MA, Cleveland OH, and internationally in St. Petersburg Russia, Prague in Czech Republic, Freiburg in Germany, Switzerland and Strasbourg in France.
